Natural Hair Treatments that actually work – Want to know how you can make your own?

Hair is made of protein (Keratin) and amino acids. Each strand is quite strong but you still need to handle it with care, particularly when it is wet. Healthy hair can be stretched up to 30 percent of its length before it breaks, but when it’s wet it swells up and becomes much weaker so you should never brush wet hair or vigorously comb it as it will break.

Unless you work in a very dirty environment or you sweat a lot, you don’t need to wash your hair every day but I use a moisturiser on my hair every time that I wet it in the shower. I have very fine hair and I have managed to grow it quite long much to the amazement of my hairdressor.

To keep it shiny and healthy, I mix together Olive Oil, Coconut Oil and Almond Oil and heat it until it is lukewarm. I then apply this oil mixture to my hair and leave it for 20 minutes.  While the oil is on my hair, I give myself a gentle scalp massage as this stimulates blood supply to the hair follicles plus it is relaxing. Stress is so damaging to your hair not to mention your overall health and well being.  It is even better if you can get someone else to give you a scalp massage.

I wrap my hair in a towel that has been soaked in hot water. I have the water hot enough that I can stand to handle the towel but not so hot that I burn my fingers.

One other thing I like to do when the towel loses it’s heat, I just pop the damp towel into the microwave for a minute to reheat it. I do this as often as I feel like but the towel should always be damp when you put it in the microwave and you have to be careful when you are handling the towel as it can become quite hot (depending on how powerful your microwave is and how long you licrowave it for)

I then shampoo my hair and remove as much water as I can before putting my conditioner on. Then using a very wide tooth comb, I gently de-tangle any knots before rinsing out the conditioner.

Special Note:  If you are going to dye your hair, try and use one with less ammonia, as over time this chemical can make your hair dry and brittle.
