Acne Remedies and Advice

  • Sharebar

The top priority for an acne sufferer is quickly finding a solution. With there being no shortage of acne remedies available, how do you choose the best one for you?

So many remedies, so many results

Regrettable but true, no single acne remedy will produce a perfect result for every single person.Until everyone’s acne starts responding the same way to treatment, we are going to continue with the situation of having so many different acne remedies on the market. It may take several attempts to find one that works well, but the benefits make it worthwhile.

Below are some suggestions to help you navigate through the process of looking for a remedy to treat your acne:

1.  Start by focusing on clean skin.As acne is caused by bacteria, therefore keeping your skin clean is essential. You should use a mild face wash formulated for acne-prone skin to wash your face each morning and each evening.

2.  Add in an anti-acne formula. You may need to add in a specialist face wash containing a stronger anti-acne formula if regularly washing your face doesn’t take care of your acne.  Good choices include those containing salicylic acid or benzoyl peroxide.  Start with the milder formulations and move up to stronger formulations if necessary.

3.There are different anti-acne formulas available, try one. There is no guarantee your skin will respond favourably to a particular acne remedy, or that your existing remedy will continue to work well.If this happens a change is called for. You may find using benzoyl peroxide instead of salicylic acid, or salicylic acid rather than benzoyl peroxide does the trick.

4.Consult your doctor for other options.Sometimes your acne will react well to an over the counter acne remedy, sometimes it won’t. If it doesn’t consult your doctor or dermatologist. There is help available to you as you try and get your acne under control. Your doctor can choose from a wide range of topical creams, gels and mild antibiotics. The goal for many people is to get their acne under control by using an antibiotic treatment for a few weeks or so and then reverting back to using one of the available, over the counter remedies.

Time, the great healer

The most important thing to remember about acne remedies is that they do take some time to work.Don’t expect too much too soon. The improvement should be gradual but sustainable. There is always the option of moving up to a more powerful remedy if you are not seeing the level of improvement you want.

It’s possible that you have quite severe acne or react negatively to some of the acne remedies you try. In these scenarios, consult your doctor as soon as possible.  Remember that there are many, many different acne remedies out there that work in many different ways.Clean, acne-free skin is within the reach of the vast majority of acne sufferers. While not claiming it’s easy to achieve, it shouldn’t be too difficult either if you follow a few basic steps. Seek professional advice from your doctor or dermatologist and most important of all, follow it and give it a reasonable amount of time to work. If you do, clean skin and increased self confidence are the least you can expect.
