Makeup Minerals: The Natural “Goodies” and “Baddies” in Your Everyday Cosmetics

by admin on September 19, 2009

Makeup minerals can be confusing. In the past year those has been so much media hype about mineral makeup that everyone is looking for natural mineral remedies. Nevertheless, not all makeup minerals are that great. Some of the most common are at best ineffectual. They could really cause some serious skin problems.

Most consumers want to get the most out of the minerals in their natural makeup. But, they probably shouldn’t switch all their makeup over to mineral makeup. Maybe they just want earth minerals. The anti-aging benefits could be what they are looking for. Or they may just want to steer clear of the makeup minerals that cause problems.

Knowing the ramifications of the mineral content in your makeup is a must. We have put together a short list of makeup minerals. You will look at your makeup’s ingredients and understand them.

Zinc and zinc oxide
These are common in pure mineral products. They also happen to be natural sunscreens. Use should use these minerals if you would like to smooth out your features and hide wrinkles. When you have these minerals in their purest form, they will not aggravate your skin.

Titanium dioxide
This is also a very normal ingredient in mineral makeups. It will smooth out flaws in your complexion. If it is in mineral makeup, it may also help relieve acne and rosacea. When its mixed with synthetic ingredients it makes the end result far less hypoallergenic.

Mica
The anti-aging mineral that is added to these natural makeups is Mica. It reflects light out of wrinkles. Mica also averts attention away from your wrinkles. When this mineral is added to makeup, it is ground up so fine that you can’t tell its there. This mineral is also located in many non-mineral and anti-aging products.

Bismuth
Bismuth has long been a very controversial mineral. After all, it is a pure mineral. However, the mineral must be processed before putting in mineral makeup. It is very hard to just grind this mineral into a powder. Some even claim that it should not even count as a pure mineral. It creates a fresh “glow” that many users love. Itching is a side effect that can result if you have sensitive skin or tend to sweat.

Talc
Talc is a classic makeup mineral. It has played a major role in cosmetics since before written history. But, many people are highly allergic to this mineral. It is usually used as a filler in most makeup. You are using talc if you use any type of conventional makeup. Makeup minerals usually exclude this mineral, even though it is legitimate, due to it being a common alergen.
