Organic Cosmetics And Skin Care – Miessence, Sukin & Sanctum?

  • Sharebar

Hi all!
I am looking at Miessence, Sanctum and Sukin to change from regular cosmetics and body care to organic! Although I know Miessence is purely certified organic, I can’t quite figure out whether Sukin and Sanctum are.
Has anyone used any of these brands and if so, how did you know they were certified organic and were they any good??
Thank you in advance!!
:)

I do not believe Organic cosmetics as they are not able to contain preservation, you have to use it up in a month!!

I have been using sukin night cream and i love it. I am a farmer and the weather takes a toll on my skin. So far the sukin has been the best. I do not know how organic it is but i love the natural ingredients. Good luck in your search.

I am an Independent Representative for MiEssence products and I use and love them. Our products have very little in the way of preservatives, sometimes a little bit of alcohol. So they do have expiration dates, but they usually have a shelf life of 12 – 18 months. I’m happy to answer any questions about our products and can provide samples to reviewers. Feel free to call me at (843) 236-2607 or visit my BLOG at MyrtleBeachOrganics.com. Thanks for your interest in our products! Best Regards, Linda

If you want to know if the product is truly organic you need to understand a few things.

    1. look for a recognized third party certification logo on the product.
in case of miessence, they have a third party organic certification that verifies the organic claim for the product.

third party certification is the highest level of verification for an organic product, it is not the manufacturer telling you the product is organic, it’s an independent verification by a third party

to meet the standard of certified organic the products must meet the food standard, that’s what miessence does.

I just looked at sukin and they are not organic, even though they are using the word “organic” on their product label, they are greenwashing. The use of the word “organic” on personal care and skin care products is very deceptive.

there are no standards for skin and body care products in regards to the use of the words “natural” and “organic” so this is why you see these words on a plethora of products that are not remotely organic.

on the sukin website I am looking at the ingredients list for the foaming facial cleanser and the first ingredient listed on the list is

    water
    then followed by several chemicals
    decyl glucoside
    cocamidopropyl betanie
    PET-150
    Pentaerythrytyl tetratserate
    phenoxyethanol

this is a trick…to make you think you are using something that is “organic”
the fist ingredients listed here make up about 70 to 80 percent of the product. the organic ingredients are at the bottom of the ingredients list, which means they make up a very small percentage of the overall product ingredients.

there is no certification logo on the products, they are not food standard certified organic.

now looking at Sanctum, another trick, they do not list the complete ingredients list for the product. I’m looking at the cleanser and they only list “key ingredients” this is a trick to not disclose the complete ingredients list…without that you actually do not know if the product is truly organic or not, there is no independent 3rd party certification logo on the products.

now I am looking at their ingredients glossary and there are definitely ingredients listed there that would not be allowed in a certified organic product.
    http://www.sanctumaustralia.com/organic-products-glossary.html

actually several ingredients listed in their glossary would not be allowed in a food standard certified organic product.

miessence is food standard certified organic, meeting a third party independent verification. The proof is in the ingredients list, no chemicals, no “naturally derived” chemicals (which is a marketing ploy).

Just because an ingredient originally came from nature does not mean it is still “natural” any ingredient that is “derived from” has been chemically processed and is no longer in it’s natural state, it’s just a way for a company to deceive consumers into thinking the ingredients are from nature.

The best place to look up information on products and product ingredients in on the website Skin Deep cosmetics database: http://www.cosmeticsdatabase.com

this is a non-profit organization that has the largest database in the world evaluating products and their ingredients.

so if you want to buy truly organic skin care, look for a third party organic certification, other wise you are paying for water & chemicals, mixed with a few organic ingredients.

    Hi Janine

We use a whole household of great products – no harmful chemicals in any of them an as a bonus the skin care is anti aging.
This range refuses to use 3000 chemicals that others (including the ones mentioned on this page) use.

    Hi all
I have just started using Sukin the past 3 weeks & love it. i chose it because I thought it was organic. But i discovered today like Janene that they add phenoxyethanol. I emaiIed them & was given the standard reply without stating anything about the chemical they were using. Now I discover the use of more chemicals in the facial cleanser. I am really disappointed. Thank you for informing us. I will use up what I have bought & choose something else

    Hi,

Funny the things you read. Just a quick note to let everyone dont believe everything you read. Some of the responses here have clearly not done their research. It is true make sure you look for the Australian organic certification to ensure what you are buying is truly organic. There are 8 organic certifying bodies in Australia, which are all independent & governed by AQIS. As another person has stated Miessence is certified by the ACO & Sanctum is certified by the OFC. Both of these products can only contain 100% natural derived ingredients with either 70% certified organic content or 95% certified organic content. The labeling will differ depending on the percentage of organic content.

As another person wrote sukin is not organic & have been within the last year been pulled up for trying to export products that use the word organic without being certified. You will notice their bi-line has changed from Australian Organic Skincare to Australian Natural Skincare because of this.

Both Miessence & Sanctum are reputable certified organic brands & depending on what you are looking for, in terms of price, aroma, skin type really depends on what one you choose.

It is disappointing that people start bad mouthing brands when they have done little research or have no authority. I have a bachelor of communication & a diploma in formulations & have been working in the cosmetic industry for 8 years.

It is a mind field out there when it comes to organic personal care products, to ensure you are getting truly organic product look for the Australian organic certified brands. These include Sanctum, Miessence, Mukti, La Mav, organicspa and others. To see them all go to the Organic Expo in Sydney Aug 20- 22 at Darling Harbour.

    Hi all
I have been using sanctum products for many years and I love them and have found them excellent and certified organic. I am not sure where Erin above gets her infomation as I also have a bottle of cleanser (infact I have a cream cleanser and a foaming cleanser) and both have full ingredient lists and 3rd party certification (OFC), perhaps she also works for MiEssence?
