What Causes Pimples

  • Sharebar

Pimples can be absolutely miserable to experience.Whether it’s one or several together, pimples have the ability to make the sufferer self-conscious and miserable. The most important thing in your quest for clean, clear skin is finding an effective way to get rid of the pimples.

Before you can get rid of pimples, though, you need to clearly understand what causes pimples in the first place.

The question is, what causes pimples?

First, let’s take a look at how your skin normally works.Millions of very difficult to see pores cover the surface of your skin. The small hairs you have on your skin surface grow up through some of these pores.Deep down in each of these pores are to be found several tiny glands which produce natural oils. These glands are known as the sebaceous glands and the oil they produce is called sebum.

One function of sebum is to act as your skins natural moisturizer.Another function of sebum is to carry impurities like dirt and dead skin cells up to the surface of the skin, allowing them to be removed, thus keeping the actual pore clean. This is how your body naturally keeps your skin healthy and moist, by removing this dirt.

When puberty hits, though, your body starts producing lots of different chemicals including hormones.Unfortunately, both you and your body take time to get used to these fluctuations.Your skin doesn’t like these huge fluctuations and the general response is an out-break of acne and/or pimples.

An unfortunate consequence of extra hormones in your body, is it seems to trigger the sebaceous glands to produce much more sebum than is normal or required. These hormonal changes can interfere with how effectively your pores shed and remove dead skin cells.  All of this extra sebum combined with a lot of stuck dead skin cells leads to a clogged pore where bacteria can cause this mixture to become infected and inflamed. The end result we are left with, is known as a pimple.

Help for your acne pimples

The natural hormonal changes occurring in your body are pretty much beyond your control, however the number of pimples you get is something you can influence

1.    Keep your skin clean – It helps to keep your skin clean by using a mild cleanser each morning and evening. If your skin is irritated you are more likely to develop pimples. Therefore, choose a gentle facial cleanser and refrain from scrubbing your skin too harshly.
2.Use medication – The function of anti-acne medications is to help control the amount of sebum produced while also enabling your skin to improve it’s ability to get rid of dead skin cells.Of the freely available medications available, benzoyl peroxide and salicylic acid are amongst the best.
3.    Keep your skin moist – Dry skin leads to more pimples, so use a very light moisturizer on your face.It is best to choose an oil-free moisturizer for optimum results.

The more you understand about the causes of pimples the easier it should be to find an effective way to treat existing pimples and prevent the occurrence of new ones. You have taken the first step by finding the correct information to help yourself. The second step is to make sure you apply the information. Your skin won’t become pimple free until you do!
