What You Need To know About Oily Skin Care

  • Sharebar

When discussing oily skin care, we must first recognize what causes it. In essence, an excess of sebum – the skin’s natural moisturizer – will trigger oily skin . It’s a well known fact that too much of anything is unhealthy, so too much sebum is also a problem. Surplus sebum can clog the skin’s pores which, in conjunction with dead skin cells may well lead to acne. Oily skin has a greasy feel and an unappealing sheen too. As a result oily skin care is as necessary as caring for any other type of skin.

The primary aim of taking care of oily skin is the removal of only the surplus sebum or oil from the skin. This is why caring for oily skin should not result in complete removal of oil. The use of a cleanser that’s specifically created for oily skin is essential. You should use one which contains salicylic acid which will slow the rate of sebum production. Cleanse your skin at least twice a day; more often if you live in a warm climate.

Nearly all of the oily skin care products are free of oil; however, it is always good to look at the ingredients of the product, before you actually invest in it. This particularly applies to products made to suit all skin types rather than just for oily skin. Your skin care regimen will depend on the amount of oil your skin is producing. For an extremely oily skin, only oily skin care products are appropriate. Always use a toner after cleansing and ensure it contains no alcohol. Using a toner which contains alcohol stimulates the skin’s sebum production.

Even though your skin is oily is still needs moisture. Don’t use a moisturizer that contains a lot of oil or wax as a key ingredient. Once a week use a mask based on Kaolin (clay) which will absorb the excess oil from your skin.

When choosing the right products for your skin, it’s a matter of trial and error before you find the right one.

In case these measures don’t give you the required result, consult a good dermatologist. He may recommend alternative oily skin care products like vitamin A creams, retinoids, sulfur creams etc, which could help reverse the problems of oily skin.
