Restylane Injections, No Pain No Gain?
Restylane could be the answer for those who have had allergy problems in the past with animal based collagen dermal fillers. They are used to fill wrinkles and the labial folds that form mainly around the nose and mouth area. Restylane injections are administered directly into the areas needing treatment and will fill out most deep wrinkles and folds in the face very successfully, taking years off the face.
Restylane is a clear biodegradable gel made from hyaluronic acid which has no animal ingredients whereas original dermal fillers contain collagen extracted from animal sources such as calves, pigs, sharks, or chickens. These substances cause allergies in some folk such as swelling, redness and bruising.
Hyaluronic acid is a substance that is normally produced by the body. Hyaluronic acid naturally attracts moisture to the skin and is what gives skin its volume and fullness.
Restylane treatment is relatively free from side effects although it sometimes leaves slight bruising. However this is probably more due to the injection process itself.
Restylane is injected between the layers of skin into the area where the support fibers of collagen and elastin are found. The hyaluronic acid replaces that which is normally present in the skin and has been lost due to aging and plumps out the wrinkle or fold creating a younger appearance. Restylane also has an additional advantage of being able to attract water into the skin keeping it moist and plump.
As there are hardly any allergy problems with hyaluronic acid, no pre-testing is required before the procedure.
Most people will require only one injection into each area to be treated. Its only fair to warn you that there is some discomfort with the process, but those treated consider the results to be well worth the suffering!
The hyaluronic acid is gradually re absorbed by the skin tissues and the effects will fade, this may takes six months, usually longer. Restylane does outlast the collagen based fillers, some claim almost twice as long.
Perlane is also made from hyaluronic acid but is a thicker form of the gel. It is mainly used for lip enhancement and to sculpt the area around the cheekbones. Some of the more serious wrinkles may be best treated with Perlane as well.
So there you are! If you have wrinkles and folds around the mouth area and think this procedure would help you, consult with your dermatologist and go for it!
Be aware the Restylane and Perlane are not suitable for acne scarring. Also avoid aspirin and similar drugs before treatment as these might cause excess bleeding.
